A lot is happening at the Del Valle Health & Wellness Center. The foundation has been poured and construction crews have begun building the framing. Central Health staff are currently contracting for additional services and soliciting businesses to address area road improvements. Staff are evaluating the estimated opening date, but they still project the center to open by the end of 2023.

The Del Valle Health & Wellness Center will offer primary care, dental care, integrated mental health, and a drive-thru retail pharmacy. The center will be the result of multiple years of extensive community engagement – guided by the Community Advisory Committee (members of the Del Valle Health & Wellness Center Community Advisory Committee include neighborhood association presidents, residents, Del Valle ISD trustees, Del Valle ISD parent community liaisons, faith-based leaders, and other community leaders).

Construction has begun on the Del Valle Health & Wellness Center.

After completing the permitting process, construction began late August at the Del Valle site, 7050 Elroy Road (adjacent to Popham Elementary School). Substantial completion the Del Valle site is expected to be reached by the end of next summer. This facility, which broke ground last spring, is expected to open to patients by fall 2023.

In the Central Health 2020 Demographic Report, Del Valle was identified as a critically underserved area in Eastern Travis County. According to the report, 27.8 percent of Del Valle households are below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). Diabetes and hypertension are the two highest chronic conditions in the area and their rates exceed the rest of Travis County. The facility will offer primary, dental, and mental health care as well as a retail pharmacy.

Central Health recently received the site development permit from the City of Austin. While the permitting process is hard to predict and took longer than originally expected, we built a flexible construction schedule, and are optimistic that we can make up time during construction.

Next, it will take a few more weeks to receive the approved construction drawings from the City, as well as getting the environmental inspection done. Once these are completed, residents will start seeing more activity on the construction site.

While we worked through the permitting process, we completed other major items in the project plan. These include:

    • Allowed our general contractor to mobilize and put up their construction trailer and fence around the site
    • Released an invitation for bid and selected a vendor for the dental equipment
    • Created a plan around the artwork to be displayed in the center – based on community feedback
    • Developed a traffic plan with the Travis County Transportation and Natural Resources Division for the Elroy and Ross Road intersection
