Project Description

Central Health is doing a complete overhaul of the Rosewood-Zaragosa healthcare facility, turning the property into a state-of-the-art specialty clinic.

Once opened, the clinic will offer Medical Access Program (MAP and MAP Basic) members medical specialty care in:

  • Cardiology

  • Podiatry

  • Gastroenterology

  • Neurology

  • Nephrology

  • Pulmonology

The center has been a longstanding resource for the local community, providing healthcare for decades. The facility was most recently a COVID-19 vaccine hub, providing free immunizations for thousands of individuals.

Construction is scheduled to begin in early 2023 and expected to be completed in late fall. Once open, the 14,500 square foot facility will allow Central Health to see an additional 25,000 to 40,000 patients per year. The added capacity means that our MAP patients will have significantly less wait times to get an appointment with a specialist in the near future. It’s part of our expansion plans to offer more services to Travis County residents. Rosewood-Zaragosa is owned by the City of Austin and leased by Central Health.

In 2018, Central Health underwent an independent, five-year performance review. From that, we created our Healthcare Equality Plan, which was approved by our Board of Managers in February. The plan identifies parts of Travis County that are in greater need of services – specifically specialty care services. Our work at Rosewood-Zaragosa is part of our effort to address these needs.
